OVERVIEW
If you would like to discover the flavours of Tenerife where they truly originate, the working family farm of Quesería Montesdeoca brings you closer to local livestock farming, artisan cheesemaking and Canarian gastronomic traditions. You can choose between two separately bookable experiences: a guided visit to the farm and cheese dairy with tasting, or a hands-on almogrote-making workshop.

During the approx. 60-minute guided visit, you can see the farm's goats and sheep up close while learning how they are cared for, what they are fed and what role fresh milk plays in cheesemaking. This can be particularly interesting if you would not only like to taste the local products, but are also curious about how much care and daily work goes into them.

At the cheese dairy, you will gain insight into the main steps of artisan cheesemaking and get a closer look at the work of the cheesemakers. As you are visiting a working farm, the processes you can see at the time depend on the day's production.

The story of Montesdeoca began in 1984, and today three generations of the family work together to carry on the local traditions. The visit takes you to Tenerife's most awarded cheese dairy, whose products have received Super Gold twice at the World Cheese Awards.

One of the most anticipated parts of the experience is the guided cheese tasting, where you can taste three different cheeses. By choosing the CHEESE & WINE ticket, you can also taste three Tenerife wines alongside them, allowing you to discover even more clearly how the local flavours complement one another.

The setting of the farm also adds to the experience: on clear days, the rural atmosphere is accompanied by views towards La Gomera and Los Gigantes. Thanks to its short duration, the visit is easy to fit into a full day in Tenerife, yet gives you a more personal insight into the island's gastronomy than simply shopping for local products or tasting them in a restaurant.

If you would not only like to taste Canarian flavours but also make one of the best-known local specialities yourself, you can choose a separate almogrote-making workshop. During the session, you prepare La Gomera's traditional spread made from aged cheese by hand using a mortar, while also learning more about its recipe and gastronomic background.

A chef's hat, apron and all the necessary equipment are provided for the workshop. The preparation is accompanied by a selection of cheeses, and the adult ticket also includes a glass of Tenerife wine. At the end of the programme, you receive the recipe and can also take home some of the almogrote you have prepared.

The guided visit is a particularly good choice if you love cheese, are interested in local products, or are looking for an enjoyable and easy-to-manage activity to do with children. The almogrote workshop is ideal if you would like to take an active part in the preparation and return home with a Canarian speciality you have made yourself.
