The Lagar de Chasna winery is for those who want to discover Tenerife's wines not through a quick, impersonal tasting, but in a peaceful mountain setting accompanied by a warm Canarian meal. This experience centres on local wines, unpretentious hospitality and time spent together.
The winery is located in Trevejos, near Vilaflor, at an altitude of 1,242 metres (4,075 feet) above sea level. This is also where the name of the winery's own wines comes from: 1242. The high-altitude location, volcanic growing area and cooler mountain climate all influence the development of the grapes and the character of the wines.
One of the winery's greatest distinguishing features is that vines nearly 400 years old have survived in its vineyards, while its wines also regularly win awards at prestigious international wine competitions.
The programme centres on tasting the winery's 1242 wines. Through the wines served, you can discover the world of Tenerife's high-altitude wines while tasting them right where they are produced. No previous knowledge of wine is required to participate.
The wine tasting is accompanied by a warm Canarian-style meal. You can expect a proper meal rather than just a few accompanying bites, allowing you to taste the wines comfortably alongside it. The specific dishes may vary according to the current selection.
The setting is welcoming and informal: do not expect an elegant, elaborately designed wine tourism centre or fine dining restaurant. The value of the experience lies in the local wines, home-style food, mountain setting and personal hospitality.
The programme is a particularly good choice for couples, groups of friends and adults interested in local gastronomy. It can also easily be combined with exploring Vilaflor or the Teide area, but anyone driving is advised to skip the wine tasting.
