The Casa del Vino offers an enjoyable, authentic experience for those who want to discover the flavours of Tenerife through its local wines. The tasting does not take place in a modern showroom, but in an atmospheric 17th-century Canarian hacienda in El Sauzal, where the setting itself brings you closer to the island's traditions.
Tenerife's wine regions are located at different altitudes and have different soils and climatic conditions, which is why the island's wines are surprisingly diverse. One of the greatest advantages of Casa del Vino is that you can discover products from several local wineries in one place, without having to visit each winery separately.
Depending on the tasting you choose, you can try three, four or five different wines. In addition to white, rosé and red wines, the more extensive tastings also include sparkling wine and sweet Malvasía. The latter is one of Tenerife's best-known wine types and also has a historical role in the wine culture of the Canary Islands.
The wines are accompanied by a selection of tapas made with local flavours. Canarian cheeses, honey, cheese spreads, pâtés, pork ham, olive oil and pastries may complement the tasting, depending on the ticket type you choose. The pairings help you experience how the character of a wine changes alongside different local foods.
After the tasting, it is also worth allowing time to visit the wine and honey museum. The exhibitions present the traditions of grape growing, winemaking and beekeeping in Tenerife, giving you cultural and historical background alongside the flavours.
At the on-site wine shop, you can purchase from a wide selection of the wines you have tasted and other products from Tenerife. This is a good opportunity to avoid choosing a wine at random and instead take home one that you have already tasted and genuinely enjoyed.
Casa del Vino fits particularly well into an excursion in northern Tenerife, for example alongside a visit to La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz or the surrounding wine regions. As a couple or with friends, it offers a relaxed stop rich in flavours, while the alcohol-free children's tasting also makes it suitable for a family itinerary.
