If you have been watching surfers from the shore for a long time and would finally like to experience what it feels like to move with a wave yourself, the Surf experience gives you the opportunity to do exactly that in Playa de las Américas. You can join even if you have never stood on a surfboard before: no previous experience is required, and the lesson is adapted to your skill level.
The team of local surfers knows the waves and surf spots of Playa de las Américas extremely well. When planning the lessons, they take both the current conditions and the participants’ skill levels into account, so not everyone simply receives the same standard lesson. As a beginner, you can start with the basics, while more experienced surfers can focus on the areas they genuinely want to improve.
The aim of your first session is not simply to somehow stand up on the board. You will learn the correct body position, the basics of paddling and standing up, as well as the safety rules you need in the ocean. After practising on land comes the part it is all about: you head into the water with your board and, with the instructor’s help, begin catching your first waves.
If you enjoy sharing new experiences with others, you can choose a group lesson, where the provider aims to teach participants of a similar skill level together. Groups consist of a maximum of 6-12 participants, allowing the instructor to continue following and assisting everyone in the water.
If personal attention is more important to you, the private lesson is fully adapted to your - or your accompanying group’s - skill level and goals. As a beginner, you can receive more direct assistance and corrections, while more experienced surfers can work specifically on areas such as positioning, timing or individual technical elements.
For experienced surfers, a separate advanced course known as perfeccionamiento is also available. The instructor first assesses your current level and goals, then uses land-based practice, ocean training and video analysis to help you identify the small technical details worth improving.
You do not need to worry about equipment either: the instructor selects the appropriate surfboard for you, while the wetsuit and surf booties are also provided. This makes it easy to include surfing in your Tenerife holiday even if you only want to try it once - and if you get into it, you can continue developing your skills here with the most suitable type of lesson.

FINESTPASS™ PRO tip
• if this will be your first surfing experience and continuous personal guidance is especially important to you, consider a private lesson, where the instruction is fully adapted to your pace
• keep in mind that surfing can be much more physically demanding than it looks from the shore; if you arrive well rested and properly hydrated, you can make much better use of the two-hour session
• if the surf booties or wetsuit you receive do not fit comfortably, feel free to let the instructor know before entering the water
• if you already have surfing experience and genuinely want to work on your technique, an advanced lesson with video analysis can provide far more specific feedback than a general group lesson
• do not judge your first session by how many waves you manage to ride standing up: based on our guests’ experiences, learning the basic technique, proper timing and how to move in the ocean is already a significant achievement during the first lesson
