The Pirámides de Güímar (Pyramids of Güímar) are a good choice if you are not just looking for a classic museum or a simple botanical garden, but for a more complete outdoor experience on the eastern side of Tenerife.
The park was founded in 1998 by the famous Norwegian researcher Thor Heyerdahl, who played an important role in preserving the pyramids of Tenerife. In addition to the pyramids, the park covers more than 64,000 m², with approx. 30,000 m² of walkable area, where outdoor trails, themed gardens, botanical collections and exhibition spaces await.
During the visit, you can explore the designated routes and gardens at your own pace. The routes include the Canary Botanical Route, the Cultural Route and the Volcanic Route, which present topics related to Tenerife’s nature, history and volcanic origin.
The park also includes the Casa Chacona Museum and an Auditorium. Special parts of the botanical collection include the Poison Garden, which is unique in Spain, as well as the Sustainable Garden, which recreates a Canarian ravine with a watercourse and characteristic vegetation. The Tropicarium shows how orchids and carnivorous plants adapt to tropical conditions.
The Pirámides de Güímar are not a quick, “tick-it-off” attraction. It is worth choosing if you would like to walk calmly, explore, take photos and discover a special part of Tenerife’s cultural, botanical and historical side.
