The Banana Experience is a good choice for those looking for an easy, family-friendly activity with a local feel in the south of Tenerife, and who would like to discover up close how Canarian bananas are grown on a working plantation.
Finca Las Margaritas is located near La Estrella, on the south-eastern side of Tenerife. During the visit, you do not arrive at a classic museum, but at a real banana plantation, where you can follow the marked route and gain insight into Canarian banana cultivation, the care of the plant, local agricultural traditions, and why this fruit is so important in the life of the Canary Islands.
The activity is available as both a guided and a self-guided visit. During the self-guided visit, you can follow the route at your own pace, learning about the different steps of banana cultivation at several stations. The guided visit provides more detailed explanations, making it a better choice for those who do not only want to look around, but would also like to understand the process and the local stories more deeply.
At the end of the visit, a tasting is also included, where you can try local flavours connected to bananas and gofio. This is not a long or physically demanding activity, but rather a calm, informative, and pleasant morning experience that fits well into a day in southern Tenerife.
The Banana Experience is not an adrenaline activity and not a spectacular show. It is worth choosing if you would like to visit a real, locally rooted place, take an easy walk through a working plantation, and better understand one of Tenerife’s best-known agricultural traditions.
