The Kayak is a guided water-based activity lasting approximately 2 hours, departing from Los Gigantes marina and continuing alongside the steep volcanic cliffs of the Teno Mountains. From the surface of the ocean, participants can directly see a section of coastline with only limited access from land.
In places, the cliffs of Los Gigantes rise up to 600 metres (1,970 feet) above the ocean. From a kayak, the scale of the cliffs, their vertical layers, smaller caves and rocky coves can be experienced much more directly than from a larger excursion boat. The exact route is always determined by the wind, waves and currents on the day.
The programme primarily uses stable double kayaks, which are relatively easy to handle even without previous kayaking experience. The equipment includes a paddle, backrest and life jacket. Experienced kayakers may also request a single kayak, but its availability depends on the equipment available and the guide's decision.
Before departure, a short safety and technical briefing helps participants learn the basic paddling and steering movements. The group is accompanied by a guide and followed by a motorised support boat, which can provide assistance if necessary. This increases safety, but the participants are still responsible for paddling.
The route includes a rest stop, during which swimming and snorkelling may be possible depending on the weather conditions. A snorkelling mask is provided, and personal equipment may also be used. Fish and other ocean wildlife may be observed, but sightings of specific species, turtles, dolphins or other larger animals cannot be guaranteed.
The provider classifies the programme as low difficulty, but this is not a passive boat trip: repetitive paddling for two hours places strain on the shoulders, arms, back and core muscles. Water spray, strong sunlight, wind and light waves should be expected even when the ocean is generally calm.
The programme is for those who want to experience one of Tenerife's most spectacular stretches of rocky coastline actively and would enjoy paddling and snorkelling alongside the scenery. This experience provides a much more direct connection with the ocean and the cliffs than a traditional boat excursion, while requiring physical participation, swimming ability and adaptation to the weather conditions.
