The Fly Fish is a specially designed inflatable watercraft towed by a motorboat, most closely resembling a cross between a banana boat and a kite. Participants bounce over the waves through turns and intense spray, and under suitable speed and conditions, the craft can briefly rise above the surface of the ocean.
The activity begins with a safety briefing 30 minutes before the starting time. After putting on the mandatory life jacket, participants are taken to the Fly Fish on a short motorboat ride, where the staff demonstrate the correct positioning and grip.
Once everyone has taken their place, the motorboat gradually begins to accelerate. The Fly Fish first bounces over the waves and moves from side to side, then may lift off the water once sufficient speed is reached. The height and intensity of the lifts depend on ocean conditions, speed and the positioning of the participants, so becoming airborne cannot be guaranteed.
The actual Fly Fish ride lasts approximately 10 minutes, while the entire activity, including the safety briefing, putting on the life jacket and the motorboat ride out, takes approximately 45 minutes. This is a short but intense water experience, not a longer boat trip or a relaxed ocean activity.
The craft can accommodate up to 6 participants at a time. Falling into the water can be a natural part of the activity; in this case, the staff will help the participant get back onto the craft. No previous water sports experience is required, but a firm grip, suitable physical condition and the ability to tolerate jolting are necessary.
Departure depends on the weather and ocean conditions, so the provider may modify or cancel the activity for safety reasons.
The Fly Fish is for those looking for a short, energetic and more unpredictable water experience than a banana boat to enjoy with family or friends. This experience provides an intense sensation of speed and floating in a short time, while participants should expect to get completely soaked, experience strong jolting and understand that the extent of becoming airborne cannot be guaranteed.
